This week we learnt the basics of rock climbing which included top rope climbing, lead climbing, absieling and placing "natrual protection" which is a whole lot of "wires" and "cams" that you place in the rock to hold you onto it when your lead climbing or setting up an anchor point at the top of the cliff for top rope climbing. Tuesday morning we went into the gear shed and sorted out all the equipment we needed for the week which included rigging ropes, slings, prussiks, carbeeners, helmets and harness and then headed off to Charleston which is an hour drive north of greymouth, Here there is some awesome cliffs to get started on climbing and all day was spent top rope climbing and learning how to place "natrual protection" into the rock. Wednesday we went to the local indoor climbing wall because it was raining and had lessons on knot tieing, lead climbing and movement on the rock which i found very helpful and interesting. Thursday had us going back to charleston to learn about creating anchors out of natrual protection so it could be used for top rope climbing. and friday had us back at the indoor wall doing the same damn thing and i'm sick of writing now.
