Buller Fest!!! 4/3/11 - 6/3/11
Buller Festval is held in Murchison two hours north of Greymouth. This weekend was all about kayaking and rafting and had all the big new zealand names in kayaking there. But i don't know who they are yet so i won't talk about that any further. so pretty much the whole thing is kayak slalom racing and raft racing down a 300m grade 3 rapid section of the Buller river called the O'sullivans rapid. I and 18 other polytech students entered into the raft race and competed awesomly! Even though we were up against trained, professional raft guides who eat breath sleep rafting we fought our way into the semis coming a very well competed third in which i was very proud of. Saturday night was the time of party and a party it was! The night started out around my van listening to music and fitting 17 people into the back "just cause we could" then heading to the big riverside party which invloved dancing, crowd surfing, mosh pitting, beer spraying and other things then heading off to bed at some un godly time of sunday morning in which i have no idea because i have forgotten. Sunday afternoon was the time for the cardboard cup which is a raft race down a section of the buller with the best cardboard raft you could make. The start of the race had every racer eat a weetbix and skull a can of coke before sprinting to thier rafts, hauling them up river to the start and paddling them down to the finish line. After that it was prize giving which had an astounding amount of expensive prizes up for grabs. one being a brand new one off kayak that was won buy an intense game of 'Paper, scissors, rock." i didn't win. Then we headed home the end.
